Wedding Oil, otherwise known as Handfasting Oil is a special oil that is often used to annoint and bless the couple and/or the unity candles during, before or after the ceremony. It is available commercially, however, it is generally preferable for friends of the couple or the officiant to actually make the oil. The oil is made with specific herbs and essential oils and consecrated for its purpose.

Often, especially with handfastings, the oil is divided into two seperate jars (usually crystal) and one is given to the bride, one to the groom after the ceremony. They annoint one another, each from their own jar every night. When seven nights have passed, the oils are blended together, poured into one of the jars, and the other jar is hidden in some secret place.
